99 Chainsaws and BEYOND!

One chainsaw makes a difference.

Five chainsaws make an even bigger impact.

Imagine what 99 could do.

It'll be off the chain!

Calling all chainsaw owners! RiverLife is proud to announce a day of CHAINSAWING AND DEBRIS CLEAN UP!

Our goal is to have at least 99 chainsaws operating and other people helping to move debris.

Details:

Gather at Fox Hollow Run on March 26 and follow the signs for parking and check in. We will be there from 9am-3pm, stop by at any point to help. All hands on deck are needed, not just chainsaw operators! Bring your own equipment and PPE. Gloves and water will be provided.

The neighborhood wants to thank the volunteers by providing lunch. So be sure to sign up so we have an accurate count! We can’t wait to see you there!

SAFETY FIRST

Use your PPE (personal protective equipment)

Please wear a reflective vest if you have one; we will have some on hand as well. If you are operating a saw, please wear chaps or other protective gear, hearing protection and safety glasses.

Be aware of your surroundings

While we will be spread out among many acres, there will be a lot of people on the ground using dangerous equipment. Always watch for saw and equipment operators and watch your step among the debris.

Dress accordingly

For those helping drag/carry debris: Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots. Long sleeves and long pants offer better protection as you handle debris.

General Chainsaw Safety

  1. Read the manufacturer owner’s manual carefully. Every chainsaw is different so don’t assume you can skip this step if you’ve used a chainsaw before.
  2. Inspect your chainsaw before starting. Ensure that all safety features are working and the chain is tight on the guide bar.
  3. Understand your limits. Don’t be afraid to request extra assistance for large jobs, and don’t allow yourself to be pressured to speed through a job.
  4. Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  5. Do not cut alone. Always have someone nearby if something goes wrong. If you have a team working spread out on a project, ensure everyone knows where everyone else is and who’s closest to them if they need to reach out for help.
  6. Be aware of your surroundings. Only operate a chainsaw outside or in a well-ventilated area. Be aware of weather conditions, terrain, wildlife, buildings, power lines, vehicles, and other people.
  7. Only operate saws when you are well-rested. Fatigue causes carelessness—If using a chainsaw on the job, be extra cautious before breaks and at the end of your shift.
  8. Don’t use a chainsaw on a ladder or climb a tree with your chainsaw if not professionally trained to do so.
  9. Ask questions, be safe. If you have any doubts about doing the job safely, seek out the proper protocol before continuing. Varying safety procedures may be necessary or required depending on the job at hand (e.g. working at a height, or presence of trip, slip, snag or fall hazards).
  10. We always have a first aid kit located on site.
